The name “Botulinum Toxin” (BTx-A) may sound a bit scary, but BTx-A is actually an effective and easy method for smoothing wrinkles and age-lines that surface as we grow older.
This treatment can provide significant results for multiple areas of the face and neck, creating a smooth, youthful appearance that often lasts for months.
At Smiles Nambour, we use products containing BTX-A, a purified natural protein that is administered through the skin, for its effects on the underlying muscles of the face.
BTX-A is the most commonly performed medical cosmetic procedure. Since first being described in a Canadian Study in 1992* it has become a “cosmetic global phenomenon”.
As we age, our face undergoes a series of repetitive and strong muscular contractions as we smile, frown, laugh, etc. The use of these facial muscles causes wrinkles to develop in the skin above them. All BTx-A does is relax those busy muscles, which allows the overlying skin to smooth out and regain a more youthful appearance. Using BTx-A means that you have a ‘rejuvenated’ look, not that you look like you’ve had “work” done on your face!
The effects of BTx-A last between three and six months, depending on the individual case. The procedure is not only effective but also quick and easy. Smiles Nambour uses the procedure for frown lines, laughter lines, “computer face”, and crow’s feet.
BTx-A can also treat so-called “Gummy” smile, in which the appearance of your upper teeth is overshadowed by excessive gum tissue. “Gummy” smiles used to require gum surgery and crowns. With BTx-A, however, we can ‘relax’ your top lip and provide a fast, easy, relatively non-invasive improvement to your smile in just one visit.
But BTx-A is more than just a cosmetic tool as it can also be used as a restorative and preventive treatment as well. Relaxing facial muscles can decrease chronic pain of the jaw, facial pain, and even tooth grinding. In the past, these issues have been extremely difficult to treat, sometimes untreatable, and sometimes requiring serious surgery.
BTx-A isn’t a ‘cure-all”, but it is a remarkably flexible treatment and Smiles Nambour is happy to be able to offer it!
