If you’re wanting to straighten your teeth, you’ve probably faced with a dilemma: Invisalign or Braces?
Here at Smiles Nambour, we are committed to educating our patients on the different types of teeth straightening, so they can make an informed decision.
Deciding whether to go with traditional braces or new and improved Invisalign depends on the individual, but there are obviously some main differences: braces are more noticeable compared to Invisalign – so which ones are the best?
How does teeth straightening work?

Both traditional braces and Invisalign work on the same principle: by applying pressure to move crooked teeth into place
How do braces work?
Traditional braces consist of a system of wires and brackets that work together to push your teeth into straighter positions. The wires and brackets are made from metal and can be seen on the surface of your teeth. As your teeth move into the right position, the pressure the wires apply weaken, which is why there are constant dental visits to adjust the tightness.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign are clear aligners that apply gentle pressure to the teeth. At the beginning of the treatment, your dentist will plot the positions of your teeth which will move into over the course of your treatment, and at each interval, you will be given a new set of aligners, which is usually every two weeks.
Invisalign or Braces – which is better?
Every patient that walks through our doors here at Smiles Nambour have different personal circumstances when it comes to their dental health, which is why at your first consultation, we make sure we discuss what your personal goals are for your teeth and discuss how our treatments can help you.
There are obvious differences between Invisalign and Braces, and there are also price differences.
Invisalign is best suited to older teenagers and adults, as they require a high level of care and maintenance, as if they are not maintained properly, they can stain. Children and young teens usually do better with traditional metal braces.
If your teeth are severely crooked, or if you have a misaligned jaw, then Invisalign may not work for you. In some cases, traditional metal braces still offer the best straightening solution and, even if your appearance is very important, if Invisalign won’t achieve the treatment goals, your dentist may make a different recommendation.
