When you brush your teeth in the morning and take one last look in the mirror, do you feel confident? Or is there something in your smile that makes you feel a little less confident? When you are in public do you talk and laugh without concern, or does the look of your smile and your teeth make you shy?

If your reflection reveals problems, big or small, with your teeth, gums, or smile, it can result in less confidence for you and a less positive impact on others.

If you feel that you need some ‘work’ to achieve the perfect smile for a successful lifestyle, Smiles Nambour is here to help you with a smile makeover

The Five Categories Of Cosmetic Dentistry

The Five Categories Of Cosmetic Dentistry

The Five Categories Of Cosmetic DentistryAlthough it might seem that there is a dizzying array of cosmetic treatments in dentistry, in fact they all fall neatly into five categories.

First, it is important to understand what cosmetic dentistry is – It is a method of professional oral care focusing on improvements in the appearance of your teeth, mouth, and smile. And even though cosmetic dentistry procedures are often thought of as elective treatments, they often also provide restorative and dental health benefits.

At Smiles Nambour we perform cosmetic procedures from those so simple that they only take one office visit, to those that are more complicated and involve specialized approaches.

For your understanding, here are the five main categories of cosmetic dentistry.

Mouthguards: Keep Your Smile Protected This Footy Season

Mouthguards: Keep Your Smile Protected This Footy SeasonIt’s football season again! On pitches across Australia, in 5-a-side social leagues, and in the Nambour Yandina FC, players are getting into their kits and strapping on their boots.

Everyone knows what goes into sporting kit, but when you think about kit, do you think about a mouth guard? At Smiles Nambour we welcome the football season but would also like to remind our patients and neighbours the need for dental safety throughout its duration, and in all sporting events

Why Should I Care About Mouth Guards?

Many people think about mouth guards with respect to fighting sports like martial arts or rugby. Sometimes the thought
extends to more violent sports like rugby or even Aussie Rules Footy. But the fact is that dentists recommend mouth guards for many, if not most, sports. Every particular sport requires a different type of protection, and in this article Smiles Nambour will lead you through what you need to know about sports, dental protection, and mouth guards.

Child Dental Benefits Schedule Extended

Child Dental Benefits Schedule Extended

Child Dental Benefits Schedule ExtendedHaving trouble making ends meet is a hard way to live. Watching your children grow up with bad teeth is worse. Seeing them suffer from untreated cavities or broken teeth is heartbreaking.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides basic dental care for children of low-income families. Since 2014, Australian citizens have been able to take advantage of this government program.

Children of eligible families, aged 2 to 17, have been able to receive up to $1000 of dental care over a 2 year period. Services included examinations, x-rays, cleanings, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals, and extractions. However, orthodontic or cosmetic dental work has not been covered.

5 New Year Resolutions For Dental Health Success

5 New Year Resolutions For Dental Health Success

5 New Year Resolutions For Dental Health SuccessThe tradition of making New Year’s resolutions started with the Babylonians 4000 years ago. The Babylonian New Year was at the planting of new crops, and the most common resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment.

Today, not many of us make that resolution, but there is something about the turning of the New Year that makes it a logical time for a fresh start. Today our most common resolutions revolve around health issues such as losing weight, exercising more, or eating better.

At Smiles Nambour we’d like to remind you that dental health resolutions are also great for general, and recommend the following resolutions for your new year.

Things to be Resolute About

  1. Schedule dentist visits. Sometimes it is easy to put off dental care – other important things arise in your life, you need to save money, sometimes you just forget. But don’t! Your dentist helps you keep your teeth clean, gums healthy, and smile bright.
